WATER MINT HYDROSOL (FLORAL WATER)
Water Mint Hydrosol – a traditional European floral water
Water mint (Mentha aquatica) grows naturally along streams, springs, and moist meadows across Europe. In traditional herbal practices, it was valued as a cooling and calming mint, considered gentler and more rounded than peppermint.
Water mint hydrosol is a water-based aromatic distillate obtained through steam distillation of leaves and flowering parts of the plant. As a hydrosol, it represents a mild and gentle form of mint, suitable for everyday external use.
Traditional and contemporary external use
Traditionally and in modern practice, water mint hydrosol is used externally:
– as a refreshing facial and body water,
– during warm weather for a cooling sensation on the skin,
– in baths intended for refreshment and relaxation,
– after physical activity or heat exposure,
– as a gentle skin tonic.
Herbal sources often describe water mint as a mint chosen when a softer, less intense cooling effect was preferred.
Use in natural cosmetics and aromatherapy
Due to its mild nature and fresh herbal aroma, water mint hydrosol is commonly used:
– as a water phase for refreshing creams, gels, and lotions,
– in facial, body, and foot sprays,
– in summer cosmetic formulations,
– as a gentle aromatic base suitable for daily use,
– as an alternative to essential oils for sensitive skin.
Why choose water mint hydrosol?
Water mint has traditionally been associated with:
– cooling and freshness,
– lightness and clarity,
– gentle skin care during warm periods,
– a soft mint character valued in European traditions.
The hydrosol offers a gentle way to include this refreshing heritage in everyday external and cosmetic care.
