Fruit liqueur made from lemon juice and grape pomace brandy
Production method
This lemon liqueur is prepared using freshly pressed lemon juice as the primary ingredient. A small amount of sugar is added to balance the natural acidity of the lemons. The juice mixture is then carefully blended with high-quality grape pomace brandy (tropinjevec).
Unlike limoncello, which is based on maceration of lemon peel in alcohol, this liqueur relies on the freshness, acidity, and aroma of lemon juice itself. The final blend is allowed to rest so the flavours can harmonise.
Traditional use in folk and household tradition
In Istrian and Mediterranean household tradition, lemon-based liqueurs prepared from juice were traditionally consumed in small quantities:
